Choosing a Pump
When choosing a new or replacement pump, here are some things to consider.
Head: The maximum vertical lift of the pump. For example, a 6' head means the pump is rated to pump water up to 6 feet high. However, at 6 feet, the pump would be pushing very little water through. So if you need, for example, 200 gallons per hour (gph) at 72”, you will probably need a pump that can handle 500-600 gph.
Pump Curve: The volume of water being pumped "curves," depending on the height the pump has to lift it. A 500 gph pump, for instance, might pump 500 gallons per hour at 0” lift, 350 gallons per hour at 24” lift, and so forth.
