Rates
In the same way that every writer has a unique voice, every writer has a unique writing style. Thus it’s impossible to quote accurately for any editing job without first seeing a sample of the work. For this reason, I always request a sample chapter or two before coming up with an estimate of the time required.
I also base my estimates on the type of editing required, again determined by reading the sample chapters.
My hourly rates, in US dollars:
Proofreading and copy editing: $45
Substantive editing: $50
Rewriting: $55
